“Little Belle” from the Gene Dante Album “DL/UX” is an elegant masterpiece wrapped up in three minutes and thirty two seconds of ecstasy.
The song begins with some sort of mysterious kerfuffle and laughter, then slides right into a slick crescendo of liberated joy. I can almost feel the warmth of the sun on my face as Gene croons about “coming and going down on First Street”. His voice creamy, and seductively devilish as it meanders through the chords of Erik Andersen, and soaring melodic guitar feedback of Scott Patalano.
This beautiful single is precious, and should be coveted along with classics like Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side”, The Strokes “The Adults are Talking”, AWOLNATION “Kill Your Heroes”, Placebo “Special Needs”, and Radiohead “Hight and Dry”.
Rumor Control has put together a playlist of our favorite songs featuring Gene Dante’s “Little Belle” to listen to while walking around NYC in the spring. Give it a listen, and feel the sun on your face.
