Today in History, April 12, 1954 Rock ’n’ Roll’s First Hit Song

April 12, 1954 marks a historic pop culture moment when the classic rock band Bill Haley and His Comets recorded “(We’re Gonna) Rock Around the Clock”.

Shortly after it’s release in July of 1955, the tune would go on to top the U.S Billboard singles chart for a record-breaking eight weeks after being featured on the Blackboard Jungle Film.

The band would later be invited on the Ed Sullivan Show in August of that same year to perform live.
